All Aboard!!!

One of our favorite things to do here in Portugal is travel by train. Portugal is a VERY old country, and although they have a great highway system, if you are trying to travel around cities and towns, it can be somewhat difficult because of the narrow roads. In some cities that are built on hills, you can't even drive your vehicle there.
We live in a part of the United States where mass transportation is not needed. If you need to get somewhere, you drive your car! So, the idea of traveling by train is a novelty for us. However, it is not easy to always understand the system, purchase the tickets, and make sure you are on the right train.
I find the charts to be quite confusing, but thankfully we have my parents here to help us navigate through all the numbers and names of cities. My dad usually goes and gets the tickets for us, and all we need to do is wait for the train to arrive!
Traveling by train is really comfortable too, as long as you get on a train where there is a seat available!
There are some very beautiful train stations too. The most popular one is in Porto. This is a view of the inside of the station. The entire building is decorated with gorgeous tiles depicting different scenery.
So if you are ever in Portugal, definitely take a train ride. We have gone on several trips and it has always been an adventure!
